CJ Sereno's Comment 'Ako Bahala' Ignores The Code of Judicial Conduct


According to the Code of Judicial Conduct - "Judges of courts including Associate Justices and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court shall not knowingly while proceeding is before or could come before them make any comment that might be resonably be expected to affect the outcome of such proceeding or impair the manifest fairness of the process."

During the CJ Sereno Impeachment Hearing on January 23, 2018 at the Lower House, Justice Remedios Salazar Fernando - one of the resource persons has testified that CJ Sereno was caught and quoted saying "Ako Bahala" when she had a meeting with the former presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals Justice Reyes now who is one of the Associate Justices of the Supreme Court - told Justice Fernando about what CJ Sereno's comment "Ako Bahala."

That said comment of CJ Sereno "Ako Bahala" showed that she disregarded the "Strict Demand of the Code of Judicial Conduct" mentioned above. "Ako Bahala" had become the hot subject of the discussion among the Congressmen and Justice Fernando during the Impeachment Hearing against CJ Sereno.

As Justice Fernando narrated her testimony she said that she was told by former presiding of CA Justice Reyes - that CJ Sereno told him that surely CJ Sereno will protect the Court of Appeals and will not abandone the court during her meeting with Justice Reyes.

And further told by Justice Reyes that CJ Sereno has instructed him to tell the three Justices of the Court of Appeals who were at that time faced the controversy regarding the "Amnesia Six" also known the "Ilocos Six" to file the necessary petition for prohibition with the TRO with the Supreme Court with her comment 'Ako Bahala.'
