Ano Ang Tawag Sa Politiko Na Mahilig Mamangka Sa Dalawang Ilog?

Balimbing (Star Fruits) Photo Credits: Pixabay
Balimbing (Ni Paul Odien Pruel)
Tila yata hitik na hitik sa bunga
Ang halaman kong nananariwa sa ganda
Bunga nito ay naghihintay na pitasin sila...
Pero hinayhinay sa balimbing kabayan
Huwag sanayin yaring kagustuhan
Para hindi ka mapulaan...
Ito ay hindi magandang kaugalian
Dati busilak kuno sa katapatan
Ngayon kabaligtaran ng katotohanan...
Gulong-gulo na ako kabayan
Sino ang dapat pakinggan
Ang balimbing O ang iniwan?
Dati magkahawak kamay
Banaag ang saya sa kanilang kilay
Pero saglit lang nagka hiwahiwalay...
Hay Naku! Politika
Ma aksyon na, ma drapa pa
Sa Pinas lang talaga!
What inspired me to write this poem, it was a Friday in 2005 - kasagsagan ng rally at demonstrations sa Ayala Avenue at Edsa, Philippines.
I am asking your utmost apology. Iyon talaga ang kinalabasan, balimbing! (Hypocrites, turncoats).

Kabayan Will You Support NYCC Ronald Cardema's Suggestion to Remove Scholarships of Rebellious Students?

National Youth Commission Chairman Ronald Cardema

We don't want young Filipinos to be mere puppets."

Kabayan will you support NYCC Ronald Cardema's suggestion to remove scholarships of rebellious students?

Fill Love Your Backyard

Fruits & Vegetables - Photo Credits: Pixabay
Pero he needs our help para matupad yon.

The point I wanted to make here is that - hindi lahat dapat iasa sa gobyerno ang bawat araw ng ating buhay. Fill love your backyard by planting some vegetables like pechay, kangkong sa paso also other fruit-bearing plants. Pwede rin mag-alaga ng manok sa likod-bahay.

Almost every house in a community has a backyard. But most backyards are left barren. Only a few are planted with plants that bear fruits and vegetables like eggplants, okra, string beans, cassava, radish and sweet potato. A backyard that is quite small for a garden can be used for raising poultry for food and for additional income too.

A backyard can provide facilities for a flock of chicken. A poultry-man can start with about 40 to 60 chicks. These numbers allow for some losses from disease or accident and will supply enough eggs and some meat for a small family. While a large flock may become a source of income if there is a local demand for fresh eggs and meat.

Before deciding what poultry one is going to raise, one should first consult the community veterinarian if available and to some competent farm officials about the project. If family members will do the chores there will be no hired help may be needed too. And everyone should remember that animals must be fed for every day.

Chicken, Poultry - Photo Credits: Pixabay
There are several breed chickens suitable for small farm flocks. If egg production is the main purpose, buy the white leghorn which is popular. But if you wanted the flocks to supply both eggs and meat, there is White Cornish good for meat as well as for eggs production. Chicks of good quality are usually available from local hatcheries and sometimes also sold in an open municipal market.

One way to start a flock is to buy day-old chicks. Yes. They are very young chicks that require a lot of care and must be kept in a heated breeder house. Of course, you may also prefer to buy older chicks that are well started and are ready to lay. However, you should buy them from reputable hatcheries and breeders and be sure the chickens have been tested and are free from diseases. Now most commercial hatcheries have chicks separated by sex, so you can choose high breed chicks for egg production or for meat production.

Some drugs are effective in preventing specific diseases. As part of a good poultry management, you should need them. In addition, you should need to know some poultry health measures and advice such as:
  • Buy chicks only from reliable hatcheries that are regularly inspected and known to be disease-free
  • If possible, have birds of only one age on the farm. If not, separate chicks of different ages into different flocks. Keep the flocks at least from 35 to 40 feet apart
  • Clean the poultry house before moving in new flocks
  • Always provide clean, fresh feed and pure water
  • Keep poultry house equipment clean and dry
  • Provide adequate ventilation during hot weather
  • Screen the house to protect that flock from disease borne by rats or free-flying birds
  • Store droppings and litter where they are not accessible to range animals or wild birds
  • Do not let trash or junk gather in or near the poultry house
  • And limit visitors to the poultry house. When a visit is justified, supply the visitor with rubber shoes, boots or require him to disinfect them

Mocha Uson (Kasosyo Partylist), Atty Glenn Chong and Other 16 Senatorial Candidates for 2019 MidTerm Elections

Mocha Uson is representing the Kasosyo Party-list.

Atty. Glenn Chong, (2.) Bong Go, (3.) Imee Marcos, (4.) Larry Gadon, (5.) Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, (6.) Pia Cayetano, (7.) Bong Revilla, (8.) Cynthia Villar, (9.) Freddie Aguilar, (10.) Francis Tolentino, (11.) Jinggoy Estrada, (12.) JV Ejercito, (13.) Juan Ponce Enrile, (14.) Dr. Willie Ong, (15.) Sonny Angara, (16.) Raffy Alunan and (17.) Zajid Mangundadatu.

During the time of Noynoy Aquino - there were 24 Senators - at hindi po ako naniniwala na out of 24 Senators, itong tatlo lamang ang nakasuhan while the other 21 Senators ay mga honest at walang kakayahang magnakaw. Juan Ponce Enrile, Bong Revilla at Jinggoy Estrada are not convicted.

Let us vote wisely. I just hope that this 2019 MidTerm Elections is the right time to clean-up LP/Dilawan candidates. Alam ko po hindi masi-zero ang partido Otso dahil meron silang partido sa bawa't probinsya ng Pilipinas plus their money will work for them, however, I believe that most of the Filipinos now are already gising.

Interesting incidents happened before and during February 14

The world will celebrate Valentine's Day that falls February 14 every year. However, the celebration is not only for Lovers Day as others call it but also it is the day to remember deaths, births and other remarkable events that are already written as history.

In Saudi Arabia, during the year 2002, religious police banned the sale of all Valentine's Day items, telling shop workers to remove any red items, as the day is considered a Christian holiday. And in 2008, this ban created a black market of roses and wrapping paper.

In Pakistan, the Jamaat-e-Islami political party has called for the banning of the holiday. Despite this, the celebration is increasingly popular and the florists expect to sell great amount of flowers, especially red roses.

In Iran, the first part of the 21st century, the celebration of Valentine's Day has been harshly criticized by Islamic Teachers who see the celebrations as opposed to Islamic culture. In 2011, the Iranian printing works owners' union issued a directive banning the printing and distribution of any goods promoting the holiday, including cards, gifts and teddy bears.

While the Islamic officials in Malaysia warned Muslims against celebrating Valentine's Day, linking it with vice activities. Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the celebration of romantic love was "not suitable" for Muslims. On Valentine's Day 2011, Malaysian religious authorities arrested more than 100 Muslim couples concerning the celebration ban. Some of them would be charged in the Shariah Court for defying the department's ban against the celebration of Valentine's Day.

At least there are three Valentine involved

At least there are three different Saint Valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in the early martyrologiesunder date of 14 February.

The Valentines honored on February 14 are Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni. Valentine of Rome was a priest in Rome who was martyred about AD 269 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. His relics are at the Church of Saint Praxed in Rome and at Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin, Ireland.

Valentine of Terni became bishop of Interamna about AD 197 and was said to have been martyred during the persecution under Emperor Aurelian. He was also buried on the Via Flaminia, but in a different location than Valentine of Rome. His relics are at the Basilica of Saint Valentine in Terni. Of the third Saint Valentine, who suffered in Africa with a number of companions, nothing further is known.

Saint Valentine's Day

The popular customs associated with Saint Valentine's Day undoubtedly had their origin in a conventional belief generally received in England and France during the Middle Ages, that on 14 February, which is a half way through the second month of the year, the birds began to pair.

For this reason the day was looked upon as specially consecrated to lovers and as a proper occasion for writing love letters and sending lovers' tokens. Both the French and English literatures of the 14th and 15th centuries contain allusions to the practice.

Reason why Saint Valentine--the Priest was Executed

Saint Valentine was expounded in Legenda Aurea. According to that version, St. Valentine was persecuted as a Christian and interrogated by Roman Emperor Claudius II in person. Claudius was impressed by Valentine and had a discussion with him, attempting to get him to convert to Roman paganism in order to save his life. Valentine refused and tried to convert Claudius to Christianity instead. Because of this, he was executed.

But before his execution, he was reported to have performed a miracle by healing the blind daughter of his jailer. And it was believed that Valentine fell in love his jailor's daughter — who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, he wrote her a letter, which he signed From your Valentine, an expression that is still in use today and tradition was born. Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.

Why Lupercalia is linked to Valentine's Day

According to popular modern sources link unspecified Greco-Roman February holidays alleged to be devoted to fertility and love to St. Valentine's Day, Professor Jack Oruch of the University of Kansas argued that prior to Chaucer, no links between the Saints named Valentinus and romantic love existed. Earlier links as described above were focused on sacrifice rather than romantic love. In the ancient Athenian calendar the period between mid-January and mid-February was the month of Gamelion, dedicated to the sacred marriage of Zeus and Hera.

In Ancient Rome, Lupercalia, observed February 13–15, was an archaic rite connected to fertility. Lupercalia was a festival local to the city of Rome. The more general Festival of Juno Februa, meaning Juno the purifier or the chaste Juno, was celebrated on February 13–14. But Pope Gelasius I (492–496) abolished Lupercalia.

Valentine's Day in modern times

Paper Valentines became so popular in England in the early 19th century that they were assembled in factories. Fancy Valentines were made with real lace and ribbons, with paper lace introduced in the mid-19th century. In the UK, just under half of the population spend money on their Valentines and around 1.3 billion pounds are spent yearly on cards, flowers, chocolates and other gifts, with an estimated 25 million cards being sent.

Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The mid-19th century Valentine's Day trade was a harbinger of further commercialized holidays in the United States to follow. In the second half of the 20th century, the practice of exchanging cards was extended to all manner of gifts in the United States. Such gifts typically include roses and chocolates packed in a red satin, heart-shaped box. In the 1980s, the diamond industry began to promote Valentine's Day as an occasion for giving jewelry.

Many ways to celebrate Valentine's Day

While sending cards, flowers, chocolates and other gifts is traditional in the UK, Valentine's Day has various regional customs such as:
  • In Norfolk, a character called 'Jack' Valentine knocks on the rear door of houses leaving sweets and presents for children. Although he was leaving treats, many children were scared of this mystical person.
  • In Wales, many people celebrate Dydd Santes Dwynwen (St Dwynwen's Day) on January 25 instead of (or as well as) Valentine's Day. The day commemorates St Dwynwen, the patron saint of Welsh lovers.
  • In France, a traditionally Catholic country, Valentine's Day is known simply as "Saint Valentin", and is celebrated in much the same way as other western countries.
  • In Spain Valentine's Day is known as "San Valentín" and is celebrated the same way as in the UK, although in Catalonia it is largely superseded by similar festivities of rose and/or book giving on La Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day).
  • In Portugal it is more commonly referred to as "Dia dos Namorados" (Lover's Day / Day of those that are in love with each other).
  • In Denmark and Norway, Valentine's Day (14 Feb) is known as Valentinsdag. It is not celebrated to a large extent, but is largely imported from American culture, and some people take time to eat a romantic dinner with their partner, to send a card to a secret love or give a red rose to their loved one.
  • In Sweden it is called Alla hjärtans dag ("All Hearts' Day") and was launched in the 1960s by the flower industry's commercial interests, and due to the influence of American culture.
  • In Finland Valentine's Day is called Ystävänpäivä which translates into "Friend's day". As the name indicates, this day is more about remembering all your friends, not only your loved ones.
  • In Estonia Valentine's Day is called Sõbrapäev, which has the same meaning.
  • In Slovenia, a proverb says that "St Valentine brings the keys of roots", so on February 14, plants and flowers start to grow. Valentine's Day has been celebrated as the day when the first work in the vineyards and in the fields commences. It is also said that birds propose to each other or marry on that day.
  • Another proverb says "Valentin – prvi spomladin" ("Valentine — first saint of spring"), as in some places (especially White Carniola) Saint Valentine marks the beginning of spring.
  • In Romania, the traditional holiday for lovers is Dragobete, which is celebrated on February 24. It is named after a character from Romanian folklore who was supposed to be the son of Baba Dochia. Part of his name is the word drag ("dear"), which can also be found in the word dragoste ("love").
  • In Lithuania and Latvia, it is common for people to put stickers on faces and clothing of a friend or a relative. The holiday was first celebrated after the two countries gained independence from Soviet Union in 1990.
  • Valentine's Day is called Ημέρα του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου in Greece and Cyprus, which translates into "St Valentines day".
  • In Philippines - Both private and government schools observe Valentine's Day from nursery, kindergarten, elementary, high schools, colleges and universities. The usual celebration of JS Prom in high school as part of tradition is usually fall in February 14. This is also common in other parts of the world. High school students will select from among them who will be their King and Queen.

February 14 is also about births, deaths and remarkable events

In 1852 February 14 – Great Ormond St Hospital for Sick Children was founded - the first hospital providing in-patient beds specifically for children in the English-speaking world, London. Despite opening with just 10 beds, it grew into the world's leading children's hospital through the patronage of Queen Victoria, counting Charles Dickens, a personal friend of Dr. West, the Chief Physician, as one of its first fundraisers.

In 1831 February 14 was the death of Henry Maudslay, who was a British machine tool innovator, tool and die maker, and inventor. He is considered a founding father of machine tool technology. It was Maudslay who built the lock that was displayed in Bramah’s shop window with a notice offering a reward of 200 guineas to anyone who could pick it. It resisted all efforts for forty-seven years. Maudslay designed and made a set of special tools and machines that allowed the lock to be made at an economic price.

Anna Howard Shaw was born on February 14, 1847. She had become a leader of the women's suffrage movement in the United States. She was also a physician and the first ordained female Methodist minister in the United States. Her birthday is celebrated as Anna Howard Shaw Day, as an alternative to St. Valentine's Day.

Simple communication attracts attention: My loan complaint with sss.gov.ph already set right

My Loan Complaint with SSS.gov.ph Already Resolved
On February 8, 2019 - I paid my monthly SSS contribution amounting to 550 php as a voluntary SSS member together with a payment I made amounting to 1,100 php for my SSS loan. I am an active SSS member since 1983. The number of months I had already paid to SSS has reached so far to 124 months or equivalents to 10 years and 4 months that includes the payment I made on February 8, 2019.

As a voluntary SSS member - one of my rights is I can change my monthly contribution following with the schedule of contributions for the Self-employed, Voluntary member and OFW member posted on SSS website as well as - it is also my duty and obligation to monitor any transaction I made with SSS.

When I got home that day (February 8, 2019) immediately I checked it out online if the payments I made to SSS for my monthly contribution and my loan payment were already added to my monthly recorded SSS contributions as well as to see if the loan payment I made was already recorded as a deduction of my SSS loan. But I was disappointed to see that the payment for my SSS loan was not yet recorded as a deduction only my monthly SSS contribution was updated.

The next day (February 9, 2019), I checked it out again - it was still the same, no update has done for my SSS loan also on February 10, 2019 the running balance of my SSS loan was still the same. There was no action has done on the part of the SSS Staff and employees of SSS Rosario Branch, EPZA, Cavite who received the payment I made for my SSS loan on February 8, 2019.

At around 3:47 PM (February 10, 2019) I decided to send a letter to the SSS President and CEO Mr. Emmanuel F. Dooc. I informed him regarding  my complaint read as "On February 8, 2019, I paid my second loan payment amounting to 1,100 php but it was not recorded yet as deduction until today." Below is a screenshot of my letter addressed to Mr. Emmanuel F. Dooc - SSS President and CEO.

February 11, 2019 has passed until today around 12:58 PM February 12, 2019 - Mr. Emmanuel F. Dooc has not yet replied to my letter which I sent off to him by email on February 10, 2019. However, this morning at around 10:00 AM, when I opened my SSS account on their site, I saw that the payment I made for my loan was already recorded as a deduction as you can see on the above screenshot and the date it was recorded was February 11, 2019. Even though Mr. Emmanuel F. Dooc did not reply to my complaint - the issue was already resolved and I felt consoled believing that a simple communication can attract attention. Thank you Lord.
